Going Full-time

Moving out of your “sticks and bricks” house is a decision that is not made without excitement and some hesitation. This is a decision we made back in 2018. At first, we rented our house while we were RVing, but when our last renter moved out, we decided to move back in. Since we sold most of our furniture, and stored some, we had to buy a few items. We purchased a table and 4 chairs, a sofa and Dave made us a platform bed that we purchased a mattress for. We stayed almost a year while we did some updates and maintenance items on the home. The idea of setting up the house again just didn’t seem to be a priority to either one of us which is probably why we were in no hurry to buy furniture. We finally looked at each other and said we either need to buy some furniture or go back on the road. We sold the house within 2 months. There’s a lot of things to consider before going full-time. We suggest that you start with a storage unit and if you own a home, renting it for a year before making the decision to sell. We also suggest you “travel with a purpose”. Roaming the country going here and there as you will is exciting … at first. What we’ve found and in talking with other full-timers, is that after a few months a feeling of being unsettled seems to set in. We found touring “with a purpose” makes a difference. There’s several options for this. For us, we belong to an organization that does month long volunteer projects. Some people enjoy workcamping. Some people work from their R V. There are many options. We will be posting more about full-time RVing in our blog posts and on our Youtube channel @escapingnormalrv We will talk with some seasoned full-timers and those taking the first steps to go full-time. How to get your mail and do your banking will be just a few of the things we will be discussing in future posts. Stay with us and enjoy the journey. Remember, just because you no longer have a house, you have a home. We consider ourselves “houseless” not “homeless”.
